Data is valuable for any business. The value of data is dependent on the type of data and how quickly the data must be recovered to continue to operate the business when the primary data is lost/destroyed in the event of a disaster. Having a Disaster Recovery Plan when a Disaster strikes is critically important. A DR plan needs to encompass not only backup of various types of data, but also the ability to recover this data in timely manner.
UnitedLayer offers a range of Solutions and Services that encompass Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity and Compliance. It ranges from performing backups of various types of data types - File Systems and DataBases - at regular intervals to comprehensive DR solutions that span multiple geographies and multiple media types. UnitedLayer recognizes that backing up data and making it recoverable so that Data Availability is addressed is one of the required ingredients of a company's overall Business Continuity plan.
A well thought out DR plan is also an integral part of many compliance requirements - for example, the ability to retain certain types of data over a period of several years - for a Sarbanes Oxley compliant solution; or ensuring that the geographically separate DR solution data that is being backed-up via a secure VPN connection.
Two of the most important acronyms that need to be considered for a Disaster Recovery Plan is - RPO and RTO, which stand for Recovery Point Objective and Recovery Time Objective, respectively:
- Recovery Time Objective refers to the question - How quickly would you like to recovery your backup data in the event of a primary data failure?
- Recovery Point Objective refers to the question - How far back in time do you need to go to get a known good copy of the data? i.e., it answers the question - Do I need to go back to the copy that was backed up 24 hrs ago, 48 hrs ago, or even a month ago to get a known good copy of the backed up data.
UnitedLayer has a range of Disaster Recovery solutions that cover the various RPO and RTO requirements and can range from managed daily backups, continuous data protection (CDP), or a comprehensive solution that covers triplicate copies of data across multiple geographies with technologies such as SAN Replication and Managed Tape Backup, Vaulting and Rotation.
UnitedLayer will work with you to identify the solution that fits your needs with respect to Data Availability and Compliance that meets your RTO and RPO requirements.
