About DENIC eG

DENIC is a registered cooperative with its head office in Frankfurt am Main. It was founded in December 1996. The DENIC members are companies that administer domains for their customers. DENIC performs this task without the intention of making a profit, but sees itself as an independent not-for-profit service provider for the benefit of everybody in Germany who is interested in the Internet. This commitment is laid down in the Statutes of DENIC as a basic principle, on which all its activities are based. Companies and other organizations which administer domains for third parties and feel also committed to providing services for the Internet Community based on self-regulation are welcome to become members of DENIC eG.
With the Top Level Domain .de, DENIC administers a resource of outstanding importance for the function of the Internet, since all information and data must be available all over the world and all around the clock.
Thanks to its expertise, DENIC has gained much trust and respect in recent years, not only in Germany but also at an international level. With its more than 250 members, DENIC is deeply rooted in the German Internet Community. It thus guarantees that the concerns of all parties interested in the Internet and based in Germany are directly represented on a national as well as on an international level.
The history of domain administration in Germany — and thus the history of DENIC — is a success story. During the last twelve years, DENIC has registered more than 13 million domains. Moreover, it has established and operated a reliable and secure infrastructure.
Due to its experience gathered over many years and its recognized expertise, in 2002 DENIC assumed the administration of the German ENUM Top Level Domain .9.4.e164.arpa. After successful completion of a three-year field trial, regular operation of ENUM registration for German telephone numbers started in the production environment in January 2006.
